Hotspot Creatives was founded in 2021 by two women and creatives of color with
a mission to build a creative community for all. As we celebrate our two year
anniversary, here’s a closer look at the founders:
Harmonie Malengo, is a Congolese Photographer, Creative Producer and Co-founder of Hotspot Creatives. As a self taught artist, she values building a community for underrepresented artists to cultivate their skills and be empowered. She’s also a proud alumni of D&AD Shift New York, a program for emerging creatives entering advertising and design. Malengo is currently completing her BA in Political Science at UCSC and working full time as a photographer in the Bay Area.
Based in Oakland, Irene Yu is the co-founder and Chief of Operations at Hotspot Creatives. She is also the creative director of Siempre Agency and a freelance graphic designer, and has a B.S. in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley. In her free time, she loves to collect magazines and records, paint and play with her cat, Knives Chau.
Stephen Smith is our Outreach and Social Media Intern at Hotspot Creatives. In his 4th year at the University of California, Merced, Stephen is pursuing a B.A. in Critical Race Ethnic Studies while actively participating in various leadership roles, such as the Black Student Coalition, The Black Voices Matter Fund NAACP Merced, Black Alliance, AFRO, and is pursing digital an M.S marketing to further his education. Beyond academics, Stephen enjoys photography, creative direction for various Brands and modeling. Currently based in Central Valley, CA from Los Angeles CA.
Based out of the Bay, Faïx Rozenthal is a Marketing and Product Management Intern with HotSpot Creatives. With prior experience as a marketing professional, they are currently studying Fashion and Business Management. Their hobbies include composing poetry, reading, yoga, and digital design.
